Energy Storage Systems

Operating the largest energy storage system in Southeast Asia
Battery energy storage systems (ESS) provide frequency and stability support to power grids. As one of Asia’s largest battery operators, our energy storage portfolio is well-positioned to take advantage of the evolving needs of power markets as they increase their uptake of renewable energy.
The Sembcorp Energy Storage System is Southeast Asia’s largest utility-scale ESS of 285MWh, built across two sites in Banyan and Sakra on Jurong Island and commissioned in six months.
In tandem with the Singapore Green Plan 2030 to achieve a solar target of at least 2GWp by 2030 and 200MWh of energy storage systems deployment beyond 2025, the ESS mitigates the impact of solar intermittency and enhances grid resilience. The system stores and provides power when needed to actively manage mismatches between electricity supply and demand, and will be able to meet the daily electricity needs of around 24,000 four-room Housing & Development Board public housing flats in a single discharge.
